Title

The home of Edward Loper, a Blind Miller

Description

Edward Loper lived in this home and pursued an unusual career for a blind man -- he operated a grist mill some distance behind this house on Durham Road. His nephew was S. Ward Loper, a poet, who paid tribute to his uncle in two poems, "The Blind Miller" and "Death of the Blind Miller." The people in the photo are not identified but are more than likely to be Edward Loper, his sister Rebecca and his brother Samuel. The house burned down and another built on the same site which became the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ashman Sr.
